Our heritage

From wild fynbos
to the world.

For more than three decades, Floraland has turned the Overberg’s wild flowers into a business rooted in the Cape Floral Kingdom.

From a single founder’s vision in Bredasdorp to an exporter and processor of fresh, dried and preserved Cape flowers, the Floraland story has always been about one thing — the unique beauty of South Africa’s proteas and fynbos, and the people who gather and craft them.

c. 1990

The beginning

Rudy Visser founds Floraland in Bredasdorp, building a flower business around the Overberg’s wild proteas and fynbos — gathered from the landscape of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

The growth years

Fresh, then lasting

From fresh cut flowers, Floraland develops its craft in drying and preserving — turning each season’s blooms into flowers that last — and grows into one of the region’s major protea processing operations.

A home for the Overberg

People & place

Floraland becomes a significant employer in Bredasdorp, working alongside a wide community of wild-flower harvesters across the Overberg, and supplying florists, wholesalers and exporters.

A second generation

Carrying it forward

The next generation of the Visser family joins the business, carrying the craft and the family name into a new era of Cape flowers.

Today

From Bredasdorp to the world

Floraland supplies fresh, dried and preserved Cape flowers at home and abroad, runs the Floraland Decor Market for the public, and shares the region’s floral heritage — including its “Mountain” display at the Cape Floral Kingdom Expo.

A living part of the Cape Floral Kingdom.

The story continues with every bloom we gather, dry and ship.
